Culminating challenge - Presentation of strategies to wider audience

<p>To create authenticity to the project presentation organise for local community members to be part of the audience for the presentation of teams’ final products. Community members that could get involved include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Police Youth Liaison Officer</li>
<li>Local council Road Safety Officer</li>
<li>Local council Mayor</li>
<li>Local Member of State Parliament</li>
<li>Emergency services personnel, e.g. ambulance, police, fire and rescue, SES, RFS</li>
<li>Journalist from local newspaper</li>
<li>Health Promotion Officer</li>
<li>Principal and/or Deputy Principal</li>
<li>Parent or community member/s</li>
<li>Education sector representative (e.g. road safety education advisor/officer/consultant).</li>
</ul>

<td>Invite each team to present their response to the culminating challenge to the group. Ask students to interrogate each team’s strategies using the criteria that was developed collaboratively in Activity 6 to assess the potential effectiveness of each group’s response.</td>

<p><strong>Summative assessment:</strong></p>
<ol>
<li><strong>Peer-assessment on proposed strategies</strong><br><br />
	At the conclusion of all teams’ presentations ask individual teams to cast their votes on the most effective measures via a video or audio message which nominates their selected strategy or strategies and justifies their decisions based on the new knowledge gathered during the project.<br><br />
	&nbsp;</li>
<li><strong>Self-reflection on project work</strong><br><br />
	Ask students to complete the final self-reflection worksheet to reflect on what they did in the project and the things that they learnt by completing the project. Student’s entries in their individual project diary could be used as part of this assessment element.<br><br />
	&nbsp;</li>
<li><strong>Final response to driving question</strong><br><br />
	Ask students to construct a final answer to the driving question “How can we promote safer road use amongst young people in our local community?” based on what they have learnt from the completion of the project. Ask a selection of students to share their responses and discuss what the next steps could be in ensuring that the strategies developed are implemented in the local community.</li>

<p>Collect student responses to the driving question so they can be used as a baseline to assess learning throughout the unit.</p>
<p>Student self-reflection worksheet could be developed as a Google Form for easier collection and collation.</p>
